The second event of the NWTT was held over the Jubilee bank holiday weekend. Racing in the fast handicap fleet within Coniston SC's Jubilee regatta the small but enthusiastic fleet battled not only each other but the variable conditions in three days of races.

The three blazers  starting on day one ( Steve Baldam B&FYC, PiP Warner Hornsea SC and Chris Spicer M&HYC) arrived to overcast but moderate wind conditions. The only issue being the 30 to 40 deg shifts in the Easterly breeze with gusts up and down a force.
I won't go into  great detail for all the races to make the report brief.
Race 1 Steve and Pip started well but after lap 1 both were caught by Chris who managed to stay ahead to the end with Steve in second and Pip retired with gear failure.
Race 2 the wind direction steadies and with a repeat figure of 8 course Steve sails away to a win followed by Chris and Pip with a hastily repaired boat.
Sunday dawns with a steadier but much colder wind from the North feeling more like January than June the fleet is joined by David Sykes from Ullswater YC. The course is set with a beat to the North of the lake with four reaching leg to the leeward mark.
Race 3 David and Pip start well but  Chris manages once again to finish ahead of Steve in a closely fought battle with Pip third and David fourth.
Race 4 Chris starts well and is not challenged to the line. Steve retires and David beats Pip.
Race 5 Chris again leads to the finish with David and Pip fighting for second with Steve DNS. At the line David takes the second place.
The final day greets the fleet with warmer but very light conditions. Small patches of breeze lazily drift about the lake from the east.
Race 6 starts with Chris  away to a lead but challenged by Steve the lead is lost and at the line they are followed by David and Pip.
The final race is postponed for half an hour as the wind has vanished. Eventually the fleet start in what can only be described as drifting conditions. Chis leads to the line with David and Pip not far behind. Steve makes a wise choice and is a DNS.
The final result are:
1st Chris Spicer
2nd  Steve Baldam
3rd  Pip Warner
4th  David Sykes

Thanks must go to Coniston SC for a great event in challenging conditions. The race team did a very professional job.  We were fed and watered by enthusiastic club members as well as entertained in the evenings. Over 60 boats raced across three fleets and good racing was had by all.
Finally I must add my thanks  to the Blaze sailors who supported this 2nd event in the NWTT.
