This weekend saw the first blaze open at Pevensey with a poor forecast things did not look great and with only three visitors attending, and all four home boats things looked a little bleak. Fortunately we were sailing at Pevensey where the weather has a habit of not doing what the forecast predicts. so instead of the 3knts that had been predicted, the sea breeze came in from the SW and produced a pleasant F2-3.

In the first race Rob Jones sailing 678 quickly established a small lead closely followed by the rest of the fleet, as the race progressed Rob managed to hold his lead with Andy Pickrell 587 ,Chris Saunders, 679 Chris Clarke 785,and Greg Fowler 574 regularly swapping places. At the finish Rob Jones came in first with Andy Pickrell second and Chris Clarke third .

The second race followed the same pattern with Rob up front being challenged for while by Chris Saunders and the rest of the fleet hot on their transoms. There was some very close racing with positions changing throughout the race. At the finish Rob again took the honours with Andy in second place and Chris Clarke Third.

The final race of the day was just as close with rob in front and much changing of places throughout the race as the fleet went in to the last lap Rob was leading with Chris Clarke in Second ,Chris Saunders in third and Andy Pickrell in fourth all very close. as they rounded the leeward mark. Chris Clarke then Sailed to the finish letting Chris and Andy past. After realising his mistake he rejoined the battle. but only managed to regain one place. leaving the final result of the day with Rob first Chris Saunders Second and Chris Clarke Third.

This meant that at the end of the first day Rob had a clear lead with the next three places only separated by 2points in the evening the competitors all enjoyed a curry and plenty of Harvey's best. With the forecast predicting rain and a force 6-7 every one retired to their tents and vans wondering what the morning would bring.

Sunday morning came and again Pevensey did what it does best, instead of what we were expecting what we woke up to was a force 4-5 with some reasonably big waves and the sun. The shore party made sure that there were no problems leaving the beach and we all headed out to the start.

In the fourth race Rob quickly took the lead with Chris Saunders in second Chris Clarke third, Andy Pickrell fourth and Adrian Peckham fifth. As the race progressed the gusts got bigger and so did the waves which lead to plenty of practice in avoiding nose diving down the run and reach. On the last run to the finish Rob again lead with Chris Saunders Close behind when Chris went for a gybe half way through the manoeuvre his kicker broke leading to a spectacular capsize. He recovered quickly and managed to hold his place to the finish, but with a broken kicker that was to be the end of his days sailing. Leaving the result for the fourth race with Rob in first Chris Saunders second Chris Clarke third Andy Pickrell forth and Adrian Peckham fifth.

The fifth race only saw three boats on the start line With Chris Saunders and Adrian returning to shore. Again rob set off in front with Chris Clarke and Andy following up the beat Chris then decided that he had had enough fun for the day mainly due to lack of fitness! and retired leaving Rob and Andy to slog it out. at the end Rob came home first with Andy in second.

As there were not enough competitors on the water the last race for the blazes could not be sailed, although Andy did stay out and follow the contenders round for lap of so just to play in the waves a little longer

Once every one was ashore, which was made very easy by the beach crews again working to make sure that all the boats were lifted straight from the water onto their trolleys, and making the whole thing very easy. We retired to the club for tea and cake and the prize giving. The weekend turned out to be a really good sail in some great conditions .
